Baby Video Monitor – Monitoring Your Baby with Your Eyes

| Written by Lisa Owaki |

baby video monitorThe first generation of baby monitors function like a walkie-talkie. I used to use those conventional baby monitors. Put one with the baby and put one with you. If your baby makes some sounds or noise, that’s good. You know your baby may be doing ok. However, what if your baby just keeps silence while reaching himself to a bug and trying to put it into his mouth. You just can’t see what he is DOING. More annoying is that when I opened the door and tried sneak in or took a peep, the creaking sound caused by door would wake my baby up. With the second generation of baby monitor, video monitor, I now avoid all these problems.

With this monitor, you are not only able to hear his breathing, but also to watch his movement. One of the best products I have used is Summer Infant Video Monitor. The 1.8 screen displays two sorts of view, namely daytime and nightime. The LCD screen will display full color view during daytime and black-and-white during nightime. In other words, the monitor has its night vision features, which allow parents to check up on their sleeping baby without disturbing his or her rest. Nine built-in infrared LEDs permit the camera to view clear black and white images within a distance of up to six feet in total darkness.

The monitor also comes with a rechargeable battery and A/C so that you have an option whether you want to carry your monitor without cables. The rechargeble can last for 10 hours.

One of the concerns when using baby monitor is the interference of other wireless devices. However, baby video monitor also has a built-in technology to avoid interference caused by other 2.4GHz devices such as cordless phone and 802.11 wireless computer networks.

If you have another baby, you can also buy another additional camera separately to view your baby in another room. By the way, if you’re concerned with SIDS, this device can be used together with the new generation of baby monitor—Angelcare Movement Sensor. These two are perfect match and you can read our review here.
